Portrait Commission Procedure

Whether it’s for a family home or a public space, a commissioned portrait is a piece of art that will continue to bring enjoyment to generations.
The goal of each portrait is to capture not only the likeness, but the uniqueness of each individual and to portray them at their best.
My first communication with a client involves a discussion about purpose, size, pose, background, clothing, and most importantly, personal characteristics.
At the first sitting, digital photographs are taken and I may do a quick study in paint or take color notes.
The photographs are downloaded onto my laptop computer and I go over them with the Client to determine the best pose and expression. A contract is signed and a deposit of forty percent of the cost of the portrait is collected.
If more information is required a second sitting may be necessary.
In some cases where high quality photographs are available, I may do a portrait without a photography session.
Portraits are created in my studio using the finest archival materials to insure that they will last many generations.
During the painting process the Client will be updated on progress.
When the portrait is completed and approved by the Client final payment is made.
